On a day when yet another Congress MLA joined the refrain in opposition to the Punjab government’s controversial determination of giving jobs to sons of two ruling celebration legislators, the pro-Amarinder foyer throughout the authorities went on an overdrive to defend the `beneath assault’ Chief Minister.
A joint assertion issued by over a dozen ministers and MPs stated that the collective determination of the Cabinet to give authorities jobs to sons of sitting MLAs, Fatehjung Singh Bajwa and Rakesh Pandey, was “right and according to appointments given to equally located individuals previously”.
The assertion comes after yet another chief of the celebration, Pargat Singh, joined the record of Congress leaders opposing the choice.
On Friday, the Punjab authorities determined to appoint the sons of two Congress MLAs as a police inspector and a naib tehsildar as a “particular case”. The state authorities claims the choice was taken on compassionate grounds, as a mark of recognition to the “sacrifices” made by their grandfathers who had been killed throughout the peak of militancy in Punjab.
Five ministers had reportedly opposed the choice.
“When different equally positioned individuals had been being commonly given advantages beneath the State Policy it will be unfair to discriminate in opposition to the youngsters of MLAs just because their fathers are presently holding such positions,” the assertion additional stated.
Pargat Singh, an MLA representing Jalandhar Cantt and a vocal critic of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, stated on Friday that such choices may have an effect on the Congress government’s notion a 12 months earlier than meeting elections.
“I don’t know on what parameters the sons of MLAs have been chosen for the jobs. Clearly, they haven’t been chosen on compassionate grounds (taras de adhar te). I’m shocked what sort of notion we wish to create. I thank the 5 ministers who spoke up. Despite the opposition of 5 ministers the CM is siding with these two MLAs. If this isn’t horse-trading what else is it. The message is obvious, the place CM is keen, he’ll do what he desires, even when 5 ministers oppose it,” he stated.
