Police on Wednesday booked two individuals, running news net portals, on the cost of extorting cash from a shopkeeper right here, an official stated.
Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh stated Vinod Sharma and Vinod Kumar had been booked for allegedly blackmailing the shopkeeper and extorting Rs 1,500 from him.
Complainant Mandip Singh stated his father Balbir Singh runs a small store of iron door frames adjoining to his residence in native Raja Garden colony.
The accused got here to his father’s store on May 6 and began recording a video, and claimed that he had opened the shop in violation of the Covid norms.
They threatened to add the video to their net portals in the event that they weren’t given Rs 10,000.
They pressured him to shell out Rs 1,500, stated the complainant.
After investigation, a case has been registered towards the duo however no arrest has been made but, added Khakh.
Police booked them below sections 384 (punishment for extortion), 506 (legal intimidation) and 120-B (legal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. PTI
