Mumbai, May 18: The IMD has forecast average to intense spells of rain in Mumbai metropolis and suburbs over the subsequent few hours on Tuesday in the aftermath of cyclone Tauktae, the town civic physique stated.
Along with the rain, the town may witness gusty winds with velocity reaching as much as 80-90 kmph, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation stated quoting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast issued at 7 am.
According to officers, two individuals have been killed in neighbouring Palghar and one individual died in Thane in separate incidents associated to the extreme cyclonic storm.
Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday, when the cyclone handed shut from the Mumbai coast in the direction of Gujarat, 189 mm rain was recorded at Colaba in south Mumbai and 194 mm at Santacruz in the western suburbs, the BMC stated.
Gusty winds reaching the velocity of 114 kmph and heavy showers lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Monday, the civic physique earlier stated.
In neighbouring Palghar, a 51-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed after a tree fell on his automobile in Valiv space of the district on Monday, police stated.
Besides, a 40-year-old man died after being crushed by cement blocks that fell from the roof of a home resulting from excessive winds in Valiv space, they stated.
In Thane, a 75-year-old girl was killed after a tree collapsed on her home in Kashimira space resulting from heavy rains, police stated.
A highcompound wall of a housing advanced collapsed in Lokpuram space of Thane in the wee hours of Tuesday, however there was no casualty, regional catastrophe administration cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam stated.
