CHANDIGARH: Aiming to curb the menace of corruption among the many society, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau as we speak nabbed a private person for offering Rs. 50000 to Addl Commissioner state tax (ACST) in lieu of exempting GST on tobacco merchandise.
Disclosing this right here, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau BK Uppal mentioned a private person Varun Mahajan of Jalandhar metropolis was arrested on the grievance of ACST (GST) Jalandhar Dipender Singh Garcha. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused Varun Mahajan, an agent, was offering him Rs 50,000 to launch his consignment of tobacco merchandise with out paying GST which was acquired by means of railway at Jalandhar station.
After verifying his info, the vigilance crew laid a reverse trap and the accused Varun Mahajan was arrested on the spot whereas offering bribe of Rs. 50,000 to the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He knowledgeable that a case below Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered in opposition to the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and additional investigation was below progress.
