Bathinda, April 14
Farmers underneath the banner of BKU (Mansa) faction staged a protest at Goniana Kalan in Bathinda district alleging the FCI had not began wheat procurement there up to now.
The protesting farmers raised slogans towards the Centre and the FCI. They stated the central procurement company had dragged its ft from round six mandis within the district on the pretext of excessive moisture content material. Farmers blocked Bathinda-Amritsar highway and likewise raised slogans towards the state authorities.
Union chief Jagshir Jeeda stated, “This is a deliberate try by the central procurement company to pester farmers who’ve introduced their produce to the mandi. No one is out there right here to purchase their produce. This strategy of FCI received’t be tolerated and if the procurement doesn’t begin quickly, we are going to intensify the stir.”
Later, Naib Tehsildar Rajvir Singh reached the protest venue and placated the farmers following which the dharna ended. — TNS
