(*12*)The Opposition Congress has gained 12 seats whereas the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) gained 11 seats in the 29-member Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), an official stated on Thursday. The election to the GHADC was held on April 12. The counting of votes was held on Thursday, the official of the District Council Affairs Department stated.
The BJP which is the junior alliance accomplice of NPP in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance authorities has gained two seats, the GNC one and Independents gained three seats in the GHADC, the official stated.
BJP’s Bernard Marak gained the celebrated Tura constituency which is underneath the South Tura Assembly section represented by Chief Minister Conrad Ok Sangma.
Marak is a former member of the Achik National Volunteer Council, armed militant group which signed a tripartite settlement with the state and the Central authorities.
An NPP chief stated the BJP is more likely to assist the NPP in the GHADC and the get together can also be in talks with the Independents.
