NEW DELHI: In a serious increase to India’s rice exports potential, the primary consignment of ‘purple rice’ was flagged off on Thursday to the United States of America (USA).
Iron-rich ‘purple rice’ is grown within the Brahmaputra valley of Assam, with out the use of any chemical fertilizer. The rice selection is referred as ‘Bao-dhaan’, which is an integral half of Assamese meals.
The purple rice is being sourced by main rice exporter – LT Foods. The flagging off ceremony of the export consignments was carried out by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Chairman Dr M.Angamuthu at Sonepat, Haryana.
As the exports of ‘purple rice’ develop, it could improve the incomes of farming households of the Brahmaputra flood plains, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated in a launch.
APEDA, which comes beneath the division of Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been selling rice exports by means of collaborations with numerous stakeholders within the worth chains.
“The authorities had arrange the Rice Export Promotion Forum (REPF), beneath the aegis of the APEDA. REPF has representations from the rice trade, exporters, officers from APEDA, the ministry of commerce and administrators of agriculture from main rice-producing states together with West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh and Odisha,” the discharge stated.
During the April to January interval of 2020-21, the cargo of non-Basmati rice witnessed a formidable spike.
The non-basmati rice exports have been Rs 26,058 crore (3506 US$ Million) throughout April-January, 2021 towards Rs 11,543 crore (1627US$ Million) reported throughout April-January, 2020 interval. The exports of non-Basmati witnessed a development of 125 per cent in Rupee phrases and 115 per cent Dollar phrases, the discharge stated.
