Twitter assumes that as a platform it was not ruled by the Indian structure and may function with impunity and due to this fact, a regulation is required to cope with such sort of hatred and divisive messages, the PIL stated. The petition needed the courtroom to order the federal government to make a regulation as per which motion will be initiated towards Twitter India for publishing, selling, promoting any message which is spreading hatred amongst the group and are towards the integrity & sovereignty of India…,” it stated.
The regulation should even have a provision beneath which Twitter Indian will be prosecuted for wilfully abetting and selling anti-India tweets and penalised.
A 3-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde issued the notices appearing on the PIL argued by advocate Ashwini Kumar Dubey. The petition was filed by BJP chief Vinit Goenka.
