Tea Board has issued show cause notices to 30 tea factories in The Nilgiris for varied deviations from authorized necessities.
Tea Board’s Executive Director, M Balaji, mentioned that the Board’s officers undertook inspection in 43 factories over the past two months. Show cause notices have since been issued to 30 of those factories for varied deviations, he mentioned.
“These deviations included lack of high quality leaf procurement, poor hygiene requirements, non-maintenance of statutory information, holding of tea waste past permissible degree, procurement of purchased leaf past the permissible restrict, buy of tea from different factories and non-adherence to Price Sharing Formula”, he mentioned.
These factories have been given statutory time and mandatory motion might be taken after receipt of their reply as per the provisions specified by the Tea (Marketing) Control Order, 2003 and Tea Waste (Control) Order, 1959, he mentioned.
Balaji mentioned that the Tea Board conducts periodical inspection in tea factories to monitor the compliance to the standard and hygiene requirements set by the Board.
